Art & Poetry Event

Sponsored by the Illinois State Poetry Society and the Downers Grove Artists’ Guild, this is always a very popular event. An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning. The Illinois State Poetry society authors will draw inspiration from art submitted by the Downers Grove artists and read their original poems out loud as each one is shown.

Dorothy will be participating as both an author and an artist.

Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to all. Parking is free in the lot or on the street.

If You Only Knew - National Invitational Fine Art Exhibition

If You Only Knew breaks down the barriers between artist and viewer through letters personally written by each artist. Steeped in mystery and surprise, these letters hold the key to unlocking revelations about each artist and the work they have created. Whether funny, heartfelt, shocking, or private, it is up to the visitors to discover what lies behind the art displayed before them. Who knows what mysteries await?

Hosted by the Freeport Art Museum. Curated by Joe and Kathleen Isacson.

Dorothy Bury Shaw’s poignant painting, Tender Mercies, is featured in this exhibit.
